Top Ten Grocery Shopping Mistakes To Avoid
Receiving positive feedback on the previous video I’ve added to the Top Ten Grocery Shopping Mistakes To Avoid.
1. Don’t “crisis cook.” Plan a weekly menu before shopping instead of shopping after work for the day’s dinner gets expensive.
2. The highest markup items on the shelves are at about chest level. Reach up or kneel down to select the cheaper house or generic brands.
3. A grocery store’s main aisles, like the paths to milk and bread, (which are usually way down the back of the store) are usually strewn with high-priced land mines.
4. You’ll buy more when hungry so avoid shopping for food when you’re hungry.
5. Don’t grocery shop when you’re tired, you’ll buy more sweets and more high-carbohydrates. When angry, you go for junk or crunch food.
6. Always get a rain check if a sale item is gone.
7. Shop with a calculator. That way, you can figure whether the unit price is really cheaper when buying the larger size. Often the larger size is not the most economical.
8. Check your receipts….mistakes happen. I’ve found it helpful to write the sale price on the packet. I then keep the sale items for last so I can make sure the correct price is charged. Otherwise how are you supposed to remember what the sale price was. And quite often if you have to go back to the store and you only shop fortnightly, like I do, you won’t be bothered or forget.
9. If you have been charged the incorrect price in some shops eg Woolworths you are entitled to receive that item for free.
10. Not having a plan. Shoppers who plan and stick to their shopping lists spend less money than shoppers who go to the store with only a vague idea of what they need.
