Receivers and Managers have been trying to reduce the impact of lost childcare placings and jobs with the recent ABC Learning Childcare Centres shambles unfolding.

With so many families having both parents needing to go to work this is a very unsettling time for them…especially so close to xmas.  With such a shortage of childcare as it is….. more needs to be done to secure the places of these children and for future children needing these critical services to help our working families.

The government has been giving a ‘baby bonus’ to encourage an increase in our birth rate….. but if you have to end up going to work to survive financially …you have to ask the question…. and where do the children go? 

Do we once again return to the ‘latchkey’ child letting themselves into an empty house after school…for lack of after school care.   And then we have the problem of unsupervised children getting into trouble or danger…..now that’s another issue….. but for now…

Latest news on ABC Learning Childcare Centres has brought relief to at least some families…..

The federal government will provide an additional $34 million to keep 241 unprofitable ABC Learning centres open until March next year.

The receiver for ABC Learning said it had found childcare places for 110,000 children and saved the jobs of all but 100 of the group’s 16,000 staff, although 55 centres will close.
