Official Australia Day Program of Events
Celebrate and join in the official Australia Day Program of Events….
8am – Start Australia Day with traditional Woggan-ma-gule morning ceremony in the Royal Botanic Gardens…followed by storytelling and workshops.
9am – Starting on Alfred St, Circular Quay Athletes compete in The Arrive Alive Oz Day 10km wheelchair road race.
10am-6pm- Yabun 2009 festival – a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures at Victoria Park, Broadway. Songs, dances, arts & crafts, performances and food.
10am – 5pm -NRMA Motorfest – Macquarie & College Streets - Don’t miss this rare display of over 1,000 vintage, veteran and classic vehicles.
11am-6pm – Performances from Jay Laga’aia, Bananas in Pyjamas and more at Tumbalong Park Darling Harbour
NOON – 9pm – Alvin and the Chipmunks – Hyde Park north
1.15-4pm – 173rd Australia Day Regatta – Sydney Harbour, east of Clark Island
1pm - The Royal Australian Navy performing a series of search and rescue displays at Farm Cove, Sydney Harbour
2.30pm – Flyover by The Australian Air Force above Sydney Harbour in four Air Force Hawk 127s.
2-3pm - Lord Mayor’s citizenship ceremony at Hyde Park main stage
3pm – Red Berets from the Army Parachute Training School splash in to Circular Quay
4pm-9.30pm – Sydney Ports Jazz on the Water concert at Pyrmont Point Park. Includes James Valentine Quartet, Royal Australian Navy Band featuring Carl Riseley and Katie Noonan
10am-7pm – Giant digital screen in Hyde Park north near St James Station featuring past TV shows like Skippy as well as a Great Aussie Guitar Hero Tournament.
10am-9pm – Rocksong free outdoor festival in The Rocks by performances including The Her, Christine Anu, Holly Throsby, Kid Confucius and The Song Company celebrating Australian music.
7pm – The Twilight Ceremony kicks off in Cockle Bay with harbour parade and arrival of NSW Governor and Premium.
8pm - The Australia Day Spectacular over Cockle Bay with music and fireworks from 8.45pm
