Fundraiser World Rowing U23 Championships To Represent Australia

by Gaida in Financial, Fundraiser, True Locals

I’ve been busy the last few days creating a website.   A Fundraiser for World Rowing U23 Championships To Represent Australia.

Kieran Kobelke & James Gatti are so excited about being selected and have been hard at training. They’re off to compete against the world’s best in Brandenburg, Germany.

It makes you wonder when you have these talented athletes willing to put in the hours and hours of training time… but once selected have to find the funds to get themselves there!  I tell you… they are certainly dedicated.  (I think some of us would faint at the mere thought of a fraction of what they do)

Kieran started rowing 4 years ago during his HSC and final year at school and James first represented Australia at the World Rowing Junior Championships in 2004.

To learn more and offer your support the Fundraiser for World Rowing U23 Championships has some great shots of the boys in action training as they’re “Rowing for Gold to Represent Australia!” ….now that’s certainly an achievement.

Family Life Healthy Eating

by Gaida in health, recipes

family eating togetherHave you ever taken the time to stop and think about your Family Life Healthy Eating Plan?

As parents the demands of our hectic lifestyles with an active family it’s often easy to overlook providing nutritious meals that satisfy everyone’s needs and taste buds.

Family meals are a time for getting together and sharing these special moments and to talk about your plans as a family.  My teenager’s meal barely touches the sides in his eagerness to complete the meal… our conversations at meal times can be compared to ’speed dating’…. and I assure you it’s not from lack of trying.

Is your family get together at meals a time of the past?

Only 54 percent of Americans eat a meal at the table with their families “most days.”
A recent survey shows….
65 percent eat alone a few days a week or more.
One-third eat out at least a few days a week,
61 percent eat out a minimum once a week.
Adapted from American Demographics

Australian stats….. unknown.

Don’t let your family be a statistic!  These tips will help you to enjoy these times to the fullest.

Nintendo Wii Revitalizes Hula Hoop Fad

by Gaida in entertainment, health

Ah… The Hula Hoop….now that certainly brings back memories of my childhood yester year!  Also helping is the new craze of Nintendo Wii Revitalizes Hula Hoop Fad.  It certainly kept us kids occupied with many hours of entertainment.

Sometimes it’s the simplest toys that we find the most enjoyment from…and it wasn’t just Elvis Presley swinging his hips during this era.

A little touch of Trivia…

The Hula Hoop turned 50 on 19th June! (Thanks Trisha at Ideas For Women)

“It became a real piece of Americana” The Hula Hoop became so *ubiquitous that the
former Soviet Union banned the toy as a symbol of the “emptiness of American culture.”

(*Being or seeming to be everywhere at the same time)

Apparently when the fad of hula hoops was wearing off to spark new interest they added a new twist and inserted ball bearings in the cylinder to make a “shoosh” sound….not sure that I remember that!

The Hula Hoop has certainly come a long way over the years.  Now….You can spin a virtual form of the toy on a new Nintendo Wii video game promoting physical fitness or you can make your own Hula Hoop.

This story got me started on some research…..Who said the Hula Hoop had died…. I’ve just found a community with video Hula Hoop tutorials …. like ‘Lifts from the waist’ …..before long you’ll soon be holding your own hoopfest.

If you want to see what you can really do with a Hula Hoop you won’t believe your eyes….

Wow!… If that’s not quite your speed you can always start your physical fitness with Nintendo Wii Revitalizes Hula Hoop Fad video.
